Tiger Woods Injured in Car Crash

update

Reports from Florida say world No. 1 men's golfer Tiger Woods was injured in car wreck early Friday morning outside his home near Orlando, Florida.

World No. 1 men's golfer Tiger Woods was slightly injured early Friday when he drove his Cadillac SUV into a tree near his home in an exclusive waterfront community in Orlando, Florida.

Woods was pulling out of his neighborhood when he struck a fire hydrant and then a tree around 0730 hours UTC Friday. The 33-year-old golfer was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. He is reported in good condition and his agent said Woods is "fine."

The Florida Highway Patrol said alcohol was not involved in the accident and no one else was in the car. Early reports said that Woods suffered facial lacerations but a hospital spokeswoman said the injuries were minor.

Tiger has won 14 major tournaments and 82 times around the world, including at this month's Australian Masters. He is scheduled to host his own invitational tournament, the Chevron World Challenge, beginning Monday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.

Woods returned to the PGA Tour this year after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery. He did not win a major, but captured six tournament titles and the FedEx Cup title for the second time in three years.
