International Jurist Visits Zimbabwe to Assess Human Rights Situation

The deputy secretary general of the International Commission of Jurists this week launched a three-day mission in the country to assess human rights conditions.

Wilder Tayler arrived in Harare late Monday and immediately met with members of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions and other non-governmental organizations.

Tayler was also expected to meet with members of the judiciary and government officials.

Attorney Otto Saki of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights told reporter Jonga Kandemiiri of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that Taylor’s purpose in Zimbabwe was to directly gather information on the state of human rights.
