The Interior Ministry of Yemen have released a Somali man accused of having links with Al-Qaeda.
The man, Nur Omar Warsame was released on Saturday night on bail, officials and friends told VOA Somali Service. He was among six Somalis detained from a mosque in Mokha town in Taez region on October 29.
A friend told VOA that Mr. Warsame was released because he is expected to sit for a university exam next Tuesday.
Hussein Mohamed Ali who was campaigning for the release of the men are “innocents and were detained by mistake”.
It is not immediately known whether the remaining five will be released. However, Somalia’s Deputy Consul-General in Aden Hussein Hagi Ahmed told VOA that he expects “all of them to be released at some point”.
“It seems the Yemenis got suspicious of these men because they had computers and because they were sleeping in a mosque,” Ahmed said.
During the arrest, the Interior Ministry of Yemen accused Mr. Warsame of having ties with Al Qaeda. Yemeni police said a computer and rubber stamps from a charitable organization in Mogadishu were seized at his home during the operation last month
