Egyptian Rescuers End Search for Victims of Ferry Collision

update

Local officials say they have found no bodies and have accounted for everyone

Egyptian rescue workers have ended a search for possible victims of a collision between two ferries on the Nile River.

Local officials say they have found no bodies and have accounted for everyone, after initial reports suggested dozens of passengers and crew members were missing following the collision Friday.

Rescuers searched Friday night and early Saturday for possible victims. Officials say at least six people were injured.

The two ferries collided near the northern city of Rashid. At least 30 people were on board the boats at the time of the accident. The collision caused one boat to overturn.

More than 1,000 people were killed in 2006, when a ferry traveling from Egypt to Saudi Arabia caught fire and sank.

The owner of the ship (Mamdouh Ismail) was sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this year. He previously agreed to pay $57 million into a compensation fund for the victims.
