Attacks Kill 10 In Baghdad

Iraqi officials say eight people were killed when a car bomb exploded outside a cafe in eastern Baghdad.

Officials say the bombing occurred Wednesday evening in Sadr City, a mainly Shi'ite area which is a stronghold of anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

The area where the bomb blew up is popular with young people who gather to play dominoes and drink tea.

The Associated Press quotes police as saying that the bomb appears to have detonated prematurely because three suspected militants were inside the car when it exploded.

Iraqi officials also say a roadside bomb struck a police patrol in central Baghdad wounding eight people, including five policemen.

Also, two Iraqi soldiers were killed and seven wounded when a bomb they were trying to defuse detonated in Mahmudiyah, south of Baghdad.

The attacks come days after a string of shootings across the country killed at least 110 people in what was the country's worst day of violence this year.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
