A human-rights group in Indian-controlled Kashmir says it has found 2,700 unmarked graves in the region, containing nearly 3,000 bodies.
The International People's Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Kashmir says the graves were found during the past three years in some 55 villages. The group says nearly all of the 2,943 bodies are men.
A report published Wednesday by the group accuses Indian military and paramilitary forces of carrying out extra-judicial killings and secretly arranging to have the victims buried in scattered graves.
Indian authorities have dismissed widespread allegations of human-rights abuses by military forces.
Last year local human-rights groups reported finding nearly 1,000 unmarked graves. It is unclear if those are included in the report issued Wednesday.
Officials say they believe more than 43,000 people have been killed in Kashmir since 1989, when an Islamic separatist insurgency arose against Indian rule.
Human rights groups put the toll closer to 60,000 dead or disappeared.
