1 Dead, At Least 100 Injured in Colombia Plane Crash

A passenger plane broke into three pieces Monday while landing in bad weather on the island of San Andres, Colombia. One person died and more than 100 were injured.

Authorities were investigating reports that the plane had been hit by lightning.

The Colombian-based Aires jetliner was carrying more than 130 passengers and crew members when it crashed early Monday morning about 80 meters short of the runway on the Caribbean resort island. The Boeing 737-700 was on a trip from Bogota.

Authorities said the fatality in the incident was a Colombian woman, Amar Fernandez de Barreto, who had a heart attack.
