Uruguay, Netherlands Face Off in World Cup Semifinals Tuesday

Uruguay and the Netherlands will face off Tuesday in the first semifinal at the World Cup football tournament in South Africa.

The match-up in Cape Town will feature a two-time World Cup champion, Uruguay, versus a two-time World Cup finalist, the Netherlands.

The Dutch have won five straight World Cup matches, including a 2-1 win over five-time tournament champion Brazil in the quarterfinals.

However, Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk has warned his team not to underestimate Uruguay.

Both teams have gaps in their starting line-ups. Uruguay will be without suspended striker Luis Suarez and defender Jorge Fucile, and defender Diego Lugano and midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro are doubtful due to injuries.

The Netherlands will miss defender Gregory van der Wiel and midfielder Nigel de Jong after both received their second yellow cards against Brazil.

On Wednesday, Spain clashes with Germany in Durban in the other World Cup semifinal.

The championship match is scheduled for Sunday in Johannesburg.

Uruguay, the 16th-ranked team in the world, won the World Cup in 1930 and 1950. The fourth-ranked Dutch lost in back-to-back World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978.
