Sole Survivor of Libyan Plane Crash Returns Home

The sole survivor of Wednesday's plane crash near Libya's capital, Tripoli, has returned to the Netherlands.

The Dutch boy, Ruben van Assouw, 9, left Tripoli on a medical flight Saturday, accompanied by his aunt and uncle.

Before departing, he was told that his parents and his 11-year-old brother were among the 103 people killed in the crash.

Ruben, who is suffering from a concussion, broken legs and bruises, is the only person to survive Wednesday's crash of the Airbus A-330 near Tripoli's main airport.

The Afriqiyah Airways plane was flying from Johannesburg, South Africa when it came down short of a runway and broke apart.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Libyan officials have ruled out terrorism.

Dutch forensic experts and Airbus officials are joining the Libyan investigation into the crash.

About 70 Dutch nationals were among those killed. Most of them were returning from a vacation in South Africa.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and AFP.
