Body Found In Western Afghanistan Is Kidnapped British Man

Officials in Afghanistan say a British man kidnapped earlier this week has been found dead.

Coalition and Afghan forces found the body of David Addison Saturday in western Afghanistan. The cause of death has not been determined.

Mr. Addison was in Afghanistan as part of a team of engineers working on a road project between the southern city of Kandahar and the western city of Herat. His interpreter was also kidnapped when their convoy was ambushed on Wednesday. The Taleban is suspected of being behind the abductions.

Earlier Saturday, Afghan security forces surrounded a village in western Farah province where gunmen were believed to have been holding Mr. Addison and his interpreter. There is still no word on the interpreter's fate.

Separately, Taleban insurgents claimed responsibly for the execution of five people including a candidate in the country's upcoming legislative elections. A purported Taleban spokesman said Saturday parliament candidate Khan Mohammad Yaqubi, a district governor and three policemen were shot dead after a decision by a Taleban court.

There was no independent confirmation of the Taleban claim.
