EU Agrees to New Nuclear Talks with Iran

A top British diplomat says the European Union has agreed to give Iran more time to negotiate with EU delegates over its suspect nuclear program.

But Briton Peter Jenkins is also warning Iran against making any unilateral moves to expand its nuclear activities as new talks are planned.

Mr. Jenkins spoke to reporters Thursday in Vienna, outside a meeting where the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency was expected to approve an U.S.-backed EU draft proposal for new talks.

The draft makes no mention of previous U.S. and European threats to refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions for its alleged violations of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The board in September found Iran in non-compliance with the treaty, after Tehran began a new round of uranium processing.

The United States and Europe have accused Iran of trying to develop an atomic weapon. Iran insists its nuclear program is aimed at developing electricity.
