Chavez Says US Has Plans to Invade Venezuela

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he has evidence of a U.S. plan to invade his country.

In a Nightline, ABC News television interview Friday in New York, Mr. Chavez said he has documentation of a U.S. military plan called "Balboa" detailing a U.S. invasion, which he said involves planes and aircraft carriers.

He was quoted as saying that if the United States attempts to invade his country, "it would be embarking on a 100-year war."

Mr. Chavez has repeatedly accused Washington of trying to topple his government, an accusation the United States denies.

Mr. Chavez has been attending the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York. On Thursday, he lashed out at the United States, characterizing the country as a "terrorist state."
