Bangladesh Opposition Rallies Before Strike

Opposition supporters have marched through the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, ahead of Thursday's nationwide general strike to demand the government's resignation.

Under tight police security, members of the 14-party opposition alliance led by the Awami League marched through the city, urging people to join the strike.

The opposition accuses the government of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia of corruption and incompetence - allegations the government has denied.

Tens of thousands of opposition supporters marched toward Dhaka Tuesday to demand the resignation of the four-year-old government and new elections. Demonstrators clashed with police in several places.

Meanwhile, police searching for Islamic militants found bomb-making materials during a raid in Rangpur, north of Dhaka. Police say the raided home had been used by top members of the banned Islamic militant group Jumatul Mujahideen.
