Colombian Air Force Bombs Kill 16 Rebels

Colombia's military says at least 16 rebel guerillas were killed by a government attack in the central part of the country.

A military spokesman said Saturday the Colombian air force bombed a jungle camp in Meta department (province) that had been used by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.

The military said rebels in the camp were believed to be under the command of FARC's Jorge Briceno, also known as "Mono Jojoy."

Colombia's rebels, who are listed as terrorists by Colombia, the United States and the European Union, have been under pressure due to a military campaign launched by President Arlvaro Uribe.

FARC has been fighting the Colombian government since the 1960s.
