Florida Watermen Object to Turtle Catch Restrictions


U.S. scientists and environmental groups are concerned that growing global demand for turtles is threatening to wipe-out some species in the United States. Most wild fresh-water turtles harvested in Florida and other southern U.S. states are exported to Asia, especially China where consumption of turtle meat is rising.

Florida's state government is becoming alarmed at the extent of turtle harvesting and has imposed limits on the number that can be caught commercially.
