Pakistani police said Tuesday the death toll from Monday's suicide bombing at an opposition lawmaker's home has risen to at least 17.  More than 40 others were wounded in the attack.

Police official Khadim Hussain said Rashid Akbar Nawani, a member of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's party, was wounded in Monday's blast at his home in the Bhakkar area, in Punjab province.

Hussain said the bomber blew himself up in the middle of a crowd of the politician's supporters.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan has experienced a wave of violence in recent weeks.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
