A special national assembly in Bolivia has approved a new constitution despite a boycott by the main opposition party.
Two-thirds of the constituent assembly approved the text of the constitution Sunday after a session that stretched over 12 hours. Delegates approved each article before voting on the final text. The rightist Podemos party boycotted by the session.
Bolivians will vote in a national referendum on whether to approve the new constitution. The date has not been set.
President Evo Morales has said the constitutional changes will give Bolivia's indigenous majority more political power.
The new constitution would also eliminate presidential term limits.
Last month, four people were killed in the city of Sucre during violent protests against the proposed changes.
