'Ocean's Thirteen' Tops US Weekend Box Office List

Ocean's Thirteen broke into first place on the U.S. box office list. The star-filled Warner Bros. caper comedy debuted atop last weekend's tally, taking in $37.1 million.

Reuniting director Steven Soderbergh with cast members George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and other big names, it slightly trailed the opening weekend of its predecessor, 2004's Ocean's Twelve ($39.2 million), and the 2001 original, Ocean's Eleven ($38.1 million).

Falling to second place was Disney's Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End, taking in $21.3 million to bring its domestic total to $253.6 million. The three blockbusters which debuted in May - Sony's  Spider-Man 3, Pirates Of The Caribbean, and DreamWorks Animation's Shrek The Third - have all experienced large box office losses after massive opening weekends.

The news from abroad is more encouraging, with Spider-Man 3  nearing $900 million worldwide and Pirates approaching $750 million. Shrek is rolling out overseas gradually.
