Iran Criticizes Blockbuster Film '300' for Historical Inaccuracies

The blockbuster movie 300 may have conquered U.S. box offices, but it's no hit in Iran.

Blasting it as an "obvious insult," state-run television is featuring Iranian film directors to point out its historical inaccuracies.

Focusing on the Greek victory over vastly larger Persian forces at the Battle Of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., 300 grossed $70 million in its first weekend of U.S. release.

The film comes at a time of tension between the United States and Iran over the Middle Eastern nation's nuclear ambitions.

300 has not opened in Iran and likely never will, although one newspaper noted its availability through illegally-copied DVDs.
