Judicial sources in Egypt say a court has ordered the release of 16 detained Muslim Brotherhood members, including the group's third-ranking official and main financier.
The sources say the court did not find sufficient reason for police to detain the group, while an investigation is being conducted in a money laundering case. Their release date has not been set. In the past, similar court orders have been appealed.
The Muslim Brotherhood is Egypt's largest opposition bloc in parliament. Although the group was banned in 1954, the Brotherhood is tolerated.
The 16 detainees were part of 29 members whose assets were temporarily frozen Sunday by Egypt's public prosecutor.
That move was the government's response to a parade last month by students loyal to the Brotherhood at al-Azhar University in Cairo. The students wore militia-style uniforms.
Officials accused the Brotherhood of forming a militia to topple the government.
