Sharon's Condition Improves After Mild Stroke

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a mild stroke.

Mr. Sharon's aides say his condition has improved considerably and that he is in full control of the government. He talked with his aides and doctors at the hospital and was able to walk around the room and shower unattended. Doctors say the 77-year-old prime minister did not suffer any permanent damage from the minor stroke.

Mr. Sharon's illness comes at a delicate time, politically, says Jerusalem Post Editor David Horowitz.

"We're at the beginning of an election campaign. We're due to have general elections in Israel at the end of March," said Mr. Horowitz. "It does bring to the foreground the issue of his age and his health."

Officials say Mr. Sharon is undeterred and will continue his bid for a third term as prime minister.
