Embattled CIA Leak Reporter Miller Leaves New York Times

The New York Times reporter whose controversial role in the CIA leak investigation captured world attention has retired from the newspaper.

Judith Miller announced the end of her 28-year career at the Times in a letter published Thursday. She said she resigned because she had become the subject of news stories, something a reporter never wants to happen.

Ms. Miller spent 85 days in jail for refusing a court order to testify about conversations she had with a confidential source in the CIA leak case. She was freed after agreeing to testify before a grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity.

Several of her colleagues at the Times criticized Ms. Miller for her actions and for writing previous articles that suggested Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
