A trade delegation led by Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman has signed agreements to sell nearly $30 million worth of food to Cuba.
The delegation signed the deal Tuesday in Havana with Cuba's food importing company, Alimport. Nebraska farmers agreed to sell wheat, beans and soy products to the Cubans. The signing took place during Havana's annual trade fair.
Governor Heineman said it is a big boost for farmers in his state to find a new market.
Cuba has been under a U.S. trade embargo for more than four decades, but a law passed by the U.S. Congress in 2000 allows American food to be sold directly to Cuba on a cash basis.
