Poll:  Bush's Approval Ratings Lowest Yet

A new public opinion poll in the United States indicates President Bush's approval ratings have slipped to below 40 percent.

The survey, conducted by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal, shows Mr. Bush's approval rating stands at 39-percent, a new low for the president in the poll.

Just one month ago, President Bush's approval rating was slightly higher, an even 40 percent.

The latest poll also reveals another all-time low for the president, only 28 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction.

The survey of 807 people was conducted from October 8-10, in the weeks after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, protesters staged an antiwar vigil outside the president's Texas ranch, and gas prices soared to staggering highs.
