US Warns Americans to Avoid Sinai After Bomb Attack

The U.S. embassy in Egypt has warned Americans not to travel to the Sinai peninsula, following a roadside bomb blast that wounded two Canadian women Monday.

The blast targeted a vehicle belonging to the Multinational Observer Force (MFO), a peacekeeping force that monitors the 1979 Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty.

An embassy statement said the attack represents a new incident of violence targeting foreigners.

The embassy also cites the reported discovery of explosives in El Arish, on the Mediterranean coast of the Sinai, and press reports that an intercity bus was shot at along a Sinai road.
