President Bush Heads to G8 Summit

President Bush
President Bush has left for Europe, where he will make a brief visit to Iraq-war ally Denmark and attend the Group of Eight summit in Scotland.

Danish police have stepped up security around Copenhagen, where scores of rallies have been planned to protest Mr. Bush's visit.

The president is due to meet with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, before heading to the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland.

The summit of the world's seven leading industrial countries plus Russia is expected to focus on the global environment and fighting poverty in Africa.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is expected to press other G8 leaders to sign on to a plan that significantly increases aid to Africa.

President Bush last week announced new funding for Africa.  But he says he believes wealthy nations must help spur development in Africa, not simply donate money.
