Dutch authorities have arrested six activists who say they wanted to inspect the equipment that lets President Bush activate nuclear weapons.

The activists were detained as they sought to approach the hotel where President Bush was staying in the southern Dutch city Maastricht. A spokesman for the activists described themselves as civilian inspectors, seeking to look at the suitcase of equipment that accompanies the president.

About a thousand demonstrators rallied outside the U.S. embassy in Amsterdam Saturday protesting the war in Iraq.
