A senior Iraqi National Guard commander has been assassinated after attending a funeral in Baghdad.
Officials said Friday the commander was killed by gunmen after he left the service at a Baghdad mosque. They say at least two of his sons were wounded in the attack.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military says a suicide car bomb attack at a checkpoint in Ramadi late Thursday killed 11 Iraqi police commandos and injured at least 14 others. Wounded in the blast were 9 Iraqi policemen, two U.S. soldiers and three civilians.
Also Friday, interim Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh says the long-awaited parliamentary session to announce the new government is now scheduled for Monday.
