U.S. forces launched more airstrikes in the Iraqi city of Fallujah Monday, trying to clear out the last pockets of resistance by insurgents in the area.

Reporters in Fallujah say artillery and mortar fire also is hitting suspected rebel targets in Fallujah.

American military officials say coalition troops have found an underground bunker and reinforced tunnels beneath buildings in Fallujah. U.S. troops moving through the city are seeking out Iraqi civilians in need of medical attention.

The fighting in Fallujah entered its second week today. Military spokesmen say 38 U.S. troops and 1,200 insurgents have been killed. There is no official casualty toll for civilians or Iraqi soldiers.

The Iraqi Red Crescent Society says civilians trapped by the fighting in Fallujah are in desperate need of assistance. A relief convoy the aid group sent to Fallujah has been unable to enter the city.
