World number one Serena Williams of the United States has defeated Vera Zvonareva of Russia 6-3, 6-2 to win a fourth Wimbledon women's tennis championship and her 13th Grand Slam title.
Williams took only 67 minutes to defend her 2009 crown against 21st seed Zvonareva, who was playing in her first final in a major tournament.
Williams also won Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003. But this is the first time Serena has beaten someone other than her older sister, five-time champion Venus Williams, in the final. The American superstar siblings have combined to win nine of the last 11 Wimbledon titles.
Zvonareva and partner Elena Vesnina of Russia beat both Serena and Venus earlier this week in the women's doubles. The Russians upset the powerful duo in the quarterfinals, ending the Williams sisters' bid for a fifth consecutive Wimbledon doubles crown.
Zvonareva and Vesnina take on American Vania King and Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova in Saturday's final.
The 2010 edition of the Wimbledon championships ends Sunday with the men's final. World number one Rafael Nadal of Spain battles upset artist Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic.
Nadal won Wimbledon in 2008, but knee problems kept him from defending his title last year. He is in the Wimbledon final for a fourth time, and will be competing for his eighth Grand Slam crown. The Mallorcan clay court master claimed his fifth French Open title last month.
By contrast, Berdych will be going for his first major championship playing in his first major final. However, he faces Nadal with confidence after ousting number three Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the semifinals and six-time champion Roger Federer of Switzerland in the round-of-eight.
